 Milling Services Price Guide

The price guide below will help you to determine the cost of your milling requirements.  The prices listed are for each operation, and do not include materials.  Operations may be cumulative.

For example:

If you start with 500 board-feet of 4/4 rough dimensioned lumber for us, and wish for us to mill 3/4" X 3" crown molding from it, then we must first plane both surfaces of each board, then straight-line one edge of each board, gang-rip the boards into molding blanks, and then mold each blank on two sides.

Which equals:

    $.16/LF X 1000LF = $160

+  $.12/LF X 1000LF = $120

+  $.19/LF X 1000LF = $190

+  $.25/LF X 1800LF = $450

        milling charge = $920

If the board-foot price of your rough lumber is $3.00/BF, and the typical board is at least 6-1/4" wide by 10' long, and all boards are fairly straight, then the gross yield will be approximately 2,000 lineal feet of 3/4 X 3" stock.  However, because rough boards vary widely in the amount of warpage, bowing and cupping each has, a good rule of thumb is to allow for about 10% waste, on average, and depending on the initial quality of the lumber. That brings the net yield of our molding blanks to approximately 1,800 lineal feet.  If you began with an initial lumber investment of $1,500, and then add the milling charge of $920, your total investment for first-quality, solid wood crown molding is $1.34 per lineal foot.
The example above is based on a typical hardwood lumber consumer price.  For the same example using MDF, the price per lineal foot would be closer to $0.74 (full 3/4" profile).
As you can see, our pricing is aggressively competitive, and without sacrifice to quality.  With a typical turn-around time of seven business days or less, BLUE MOUNTAIN CUSTOM WOOD PRODUCTS is your best choice for your local, one-stop shop for all of your milled product needs.
